Fishermen & Scientists Research Society
Project Summary
In 2015, FSRS along with Fundy North Fishermen’s Association (FNFA) and Guysborough County Inshore Fishermen’s Association (GCIFA) were contracted by DFO’s Ocean and Coastal Mapping Division to contribute to coastal fisheries mapping in two maritime response areas: Bay of Fundy and Chedabucto Bay for environmental emergency response planning in case of ship-based oil spills in the area. The project was successful with over 120 participants helping to map ecological and socio-economic important areas.
FSRS, has been contracted once again by DFO to continue this project within the area between Cape St. Mary’s and Ecum Secum. Through this project, the FSRS will meet with groups of 2-6 fishermen in an area to map important ecological and socio-economic areas.
